The Gordon Tech College Prep Counseling Department
The Counseling Department at Gordon Tech College Prep seeks to promote the development of socially responsible, capable, and collaborative leaders who will contribute in a meaningful way to the local, national, and global society.
We uphold Gordon Tech’s values of Faith, Discipline, Respect and Excellence by offering services directed at supporting the academic, personal/social and career development of our students.
Through collaboration with teachers, administrators, support staff, parents and community members, counseling programs and services provide all students with the information, support and resources needed to achieve academic and personal success as both Gordon Tech students and alumni.

Guidance Services and Support
Support Services
A set of services rather than a specific academic track that seeks to address a student’s need for remediation or formation of basic academic skills.
Support Classes:
- Offered freshmen and sophomore years
- Extra emphasis on differentiating instructional strategies to meet the needs of struggling students in CORE content classes (Math, English, Science, Social Studies). Freshmen intensive instruction in Math and English aimed at building basic math, reading and writing skills.
Support Services for Students:
- Academic counseling for improving study strategies
- In-class: One-on-One instructional support in Reading and Math
Tutoring Services
- A variety of tutoring services are available to students across all content areas and grade levels.

Group Counseling Program
The Group Counseling Program at Gordon Tech provides students with a trusting, supportive and accepting setting to share mutual struggles and feelings related to a particular topic/issue. In addition to group discussion, sessions are informative in nature with the leader providing information and resources to assist students in managing various issues. All groups are led by one or more certified professional school counselors.
Groups for Term 1 & 2:
- Career Counseling Group: Introduces students to a variety of resources and activities designed to assist with career exploration and planning.
- GT Girls Group: Addressing relationships, academics, communication, friendships, conflict resolution, body image, self-esteem, etc.
- Freshmen in Focus: Addressing transition into high school by discussing experiences related to academics, relationships and self-exploration.
Fast Fact: During Term 1 approximately 72 students participated in one or more groups in the GT Group Counseling Program.
